Hello and Happy New Year Travelers.
It is hard to believe that just 48 hours ago, we were in 2022 - yet here we are in a brand new year. For myself, these 48 hours seem no different than they were 2 days ago as the energy feels quite the same. I’m not sure if this is due to my age or a figment of my imagination. When I was younger, I often felt energized with the hopes of a new year. Now that I’m past the half-century mark - it all just feels like the same day. If you happen to feel the same way - know that this is neither good nor bad. It just is.
My colleague Jessica Adams presented you with the Page of Swords for your yearly reading by zodiac sign which is fantastic, particularly reading up on my sign of Virgo - it all makes perfect sense. For this I am very grateful because it provides me information that I will need to access throughout 2023.
This newsletter however will be dealing with a more immediate time frame - the first full week of 2023. For many of us, the start of a new year brings many choices and decisions particularly if we’ve made goals or set intentions for the new year. If this is the case for you - then the card that has presented itself for you - is the Queen of Swords.
This queen brings the decisiveness of cardinal air. Cardinal signs bring with them the energy of leadership, trendsetting, starting and initiating. They can also be visionaries.
In the tarot, all queens of each suit combine the element of water (feminine energy) with the corresponding suit of their own element. Here, the Queen of Swords embodies the unique blend of reason and logic (Air) with understanding and feeling (water).
Her Characteristics
This queen is a critical thinker, ruler of intellect, keen intelligence and clever conversation. She understands that words have power and meaning and she can also understand the subtext. Cutting through extraneous information, she can get right to the point in any discussion or debate. She also recognizes that sometimes words are a poor representation of deep feeling and emotion giving her the ability to “read between the lines” in any dispute or argument. Clear headed and compassionate, this queen is firm but fair.
Her Possible Professions
This queen can play the role of mediator, judge, counselor, peacemaker. Her profession can include: researcher, scientist, lawyer, editor, writer. Utilizing the sword she holds, she can be a surgeon, dentist, oral surgeon, chef or law enforcement officer - any job, role or profession where keen intellect or sharp tools are needed to get the job the done.
Her - As A Situation
In ancient tarot tradition, this queen is often associated with being a widow or divorcee’ - someone well acquainted with heartbreak, sorrow and perhaps bitterness. I personally find this association lacking and colors this queen with a wrong brush. While the ancient traditional meanings may hold true in some instances - and indeed this queen can be an Iron Clad Bitch who can cut you to ribbons with words or a poisoned pen. In her softer side, I like to think of this queen as having the ability to empathize and draw accurate conclusions about other people and situations based upon her own experiences with loss.
Her Astrology and Timing
This queen relates to people born from 7th to 13th of March and her timing is 22 September to 23 October. Her astrology consists of Virgo, Libra, Scorpio and Aquarius.
Her Story
Often representing a mature woman, she is quick witted, independent, self-sufficient, powerful and wise. She will give correct advice and assistance when needed making her a powerful ally, but cross her and she can become your worse enemy.
Having the capacity to think objectively, analytically and factually, this queen can come across as cold and critical without empathy or compassion. Yet, she is one who has unwavering faith in her goals. You can often find this queen holding executive positions and her manner will often suggest wealth and prosperity. With the hilt of her sword resting on the arm of the throne she depicts a position of authority.
As a material plane representation of Justice in the Major Arcana, she makes clear and fair decisions based on the facts. Her association with the planet Venus means she is attuned and attracted to other people. Her primary domain is that of the 7th house of partners and relationships.
The suit of Swords relates to the Autumn and represents the time frame of weeks. All queens in the tarot are numbered 13, so using the numerology, this queen will either present herself in person or you will need to embody the qualities and characteristics of this queen between 1 - 13 weeks time. 13 weeks time will put us roughly around 26 March (give or take a few days on either side of this date).
If she presents as a person, she may be firm and fixed in her opinions, conclusions, manner and speech (which may or may not be a good thing). If having to embody this energy, you will need to be willing to see “both sides”, be fair, firm and base your actions/decisions on the facts and not so much in sentimentality.
