Back when I was still operating my website - I used to write a Moon Report. But since I’m no longer maintaining my website (temporarily), I thought it would be nice to write my first Moon Report here on Substack. The Moon Reports are not - and have never been - designed to speak to individual aspects - how this may affect you personally. They have always been designed and written to assist you in tuning into the energy that is present and thus be more mindful.
6 January will be the first full moon of 2023 and it will be occurring in the sign of Cancer.
Full moons happen when the moon is opposite the sun in the sky. The moon will falling at 16 Cancer while the Sun will be at 16 Capricorn. Full moons are often highly emotional events, so astrologers will ask that you try not to make important decisions 3 days leading up to and 3 days following a full moon. There will be a less emotional time in which to make decisions.
WHAT DOES THIS FULL MOON OPPOSITE THE SUN MEAN?
Full Moons involve trying to strike a balance between the qualities of the two signs involved. This time it is the Cancer/Capricorn axis.
The higher qualities of Capricorn include being responsible, practical, disciplined, patient and organized. The lower qualities can involve being critical, overly conventional, materialistic and status-seeking.
The higher expression of Cancer can include being nurturing, psychic/intuitive, sympathetic and family-oriented. The lower expressions could mean being overly emotional, moody, hyper-sensitive, fearful or dependent.
While Cancer is usually associated with home and family, Capricorn is about our careers and public recognition. This Full Moon will ask us to make sure we’re giving each of these life areas the attention they both need - without overemphasizing one or the other.
The Full Moon Is Not Alone
Mercury Aspects
No planet is the sky works independently. As it travels around the sky, it makes connections (aspects) to other planets and bodies in the sky too. Mercury, which has been in retrograde motion since Thursday, 29 December is sitting very close to the Sun so will *also* be in opposition to this Full Moon. What this may mean is that there’s been a lot of thought given to these two important areas of life indicated by Capricorn and Cancer. We may even bounce “back and forth” between being emotional (Cancer) and analytical (Capricorn) and some of us may have even fallen into “paralysis analysis”. This Full Moon may offer us a time to clarify our thinking about something important in our lives. However, with Mercury, the planet of thoughts, ideas and communication being retrograde, whatever ideas we may come up with might be a bit muddled and hard to talk about with others.
Uranus Aspects
Uranus, the planet of change - will be in support of both the Sun and Moon which can help us implement the changes we want to see in our lives. So while we may have to wait a bit and be patient, we may be able to implement small changes that can have a positive impact. Uranus can also assist us in maintaining healthy boundaries that protect our independence and uniquess.
Neptune Aspects
The Full Moon and Neptune are both in water signs (Cancer and Pisces - respectively) so this may be an indication that we should “go with the flow” for the moment rather than “fight against the current”. Neptune is associated with intuition and spirituality, so the solution to finding a better balance might come from tapping into the wisdom of the Universe rather than solely relying on our analytical mind. You might be able to help this along by engaging in activities such as meditation, a creative project or helping out those in need. Neptune can provide Divine inspiration.
Chiron Aspects
Chiron is known as the Wounded Healer. My colleague Jessica Adams calls him a rebel - doing things that people say shouldn’t be or can’t be done.
Chiron will be making what is called a t-square between Sun, Mercury by opposition and squaring the Moon. Think of a t-square as a three-wheeled car. You know that you can’t drive a car with just three wheels and if you do it’s very dangerous so you need to “fix it”. How is this done? You simply focus on the place where that 4th wheel naturally needs to go and then - DRIVE THAT CAR.
Chiron is an the sign of Aries - the sign of Me, Me, Me and is ruler of the 1st house of self. This includes everything from the way you look to how you wear your hair. But being apart of the t-square means he - Chiron - is the focal point and can shed light on what may help you create a better balance, make any needed changes and heal old wounds. This will be especially true if you need help working on your self-confidence or self-esteem. Given Chiron’s prominent position to the Full Moon could mean being more sensitive than usual.
Venus Aspects
The Goddess of Beauty, Love and Harmony just entered the sign of Aquarius on Monday, 2 January where she will stay until 26 January. During this time we could be “attracted” to and by relationships that are different from the “norm” or unconventional. But this placement can also mean we are more likely to rebel if someone tries to limit our freedom and independence, so while we can still be loyal and faithful, during this time we may also need our “personal space”. Romantic partners may behave or act a bit emotionally detached (friends rather than lovers), but in all of our relationships we everyone to be treated fairly.
Mars Aspects
Mars has had an usually long transit through the sign of Gemini. And while Mars won’t be making any close aspects to this Full Moon, he bears mentioning as he’s traveling through the sign that is ruled by Mercury (remember Mercury is *also* retrograde at this time too). Think “fighting words” and this should paint you a picture. Mars has been in Gemini since 30 October 2022 - all the while traveling backwards. For most of us this has required patience as some of our actions or the actions of others have presented us with unexpected obstacles, challenges and hassles. But this has been an important time as we were being asked to slow down to reconsider recent decisions and re-evaluate actions that we may have taken (think Elon Musk and TWTR). But I won’t leave you with dreary news at the end of this newsletter…
Tuesday, 12 January Mars will FINALLY TURN DIRECT! He will still continue through the sign of Gemini for 10 more weeks!! Whatever actions you’ve been reconsidering and pondering over the past two months are likely to take off. Mars with his rush of energy may provide so much energy we may feel like a race horse ready to bolt out the gate. Try to hold the reins of that filly or stallion for a bit before bolting - there’s some big energy shifts coming starting with Mercury direct on 18 January 6 days after Mars direct.
Tune in to my YouTube Channel tomorrow for your Full Moon in Cancer reading, and stay tuned for next week’s article all about BIG ENERGY SHIFTS and the Universal 8 Year energy.
Until then..Be Good To Yourselves.
