This will be the last Full Moon of 2024. There are two New Moons this month with last one happening 30 November in the sign of Capricorn. But before we get to the Gemini Full Moon, let’s look at the planetary movements.
Planetary Movements
Mars Retrograde
6 December 2024 - 24 February 2025.
In the last Moon Report, we discussed the Sagittarius New Moon and we also discussed Mars retrograde which began on 6 December. But even before 6 December we all may have experienced the precursors to this big retrograde that may be affecting us in the latter part of 2025.
This is mentioned because of the powerful oppositions (180°) between Mars and Pluto and therefore, we may already know about or already been experiencing some major changes or transformations in at least one area in our lives. During this 2-month retrograde period, there will be a great deal of energy utilized towards reshaping, overhauling or renovating something important. I can only describe it akin to taking a structure down to the studs. This is definitely a time good time:
a) to review
b) re-evaluate
c) revise - or any other word that that you can put “re” in front of -
our motivations and/or levels of commitment around something we value, and what are the next steps in terms of what we want/need to reach our goals. To accomplish this we may need to let go of something that no longer serves us or has outlived its purpose in our lives. You may also wish to explore where you want to re-direct your personal power in new or more personally exciting ways.
Sun into Capricorn
21 December 2024 - 20 January 2025.
This represents the Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. Regardless of the seasonal change happening in your part of the world, we may all feel an energetic shift as daylight either shortens or lengthens, respectively. While traveling through its annual month-long journey through Capricorn, the Sun may be having some of us thinking about our public contributions or career. Some of us may even receive some type of recognition and feel particularly rewarded somehow.
But don’t forget the Capricorn is ruled by Saturn which can mean road blocks or obstacles that might appear to slow down our forward momentum. Don’t fret if this happens because these hurdles are designed to help us see things we may have missed or show us that we need to take a different approach. This is so we can start our new direction(s) with a more firmer foundation for the future. This month should be easier to be more disciplined and responsible and it is a good time to focus on establishing or recommitting to long-term goals/plans. Sun in Capricorn will take us through Christmas and the New Year.
Gemini Full Moon, 15 December 2025 find Sun at 23 °Sagittarius opposing (180°) Moon at 23° Gemini. Wherever you find these signs and degrees will show you what issues associated with the two houses and are likely to be most impacted by the Full Moon’s presence.
All Full Moons give us an opportunity to check in and evaluate if and how we are balancing these two seemingly opposite areas in our lives.
Sagittarius - the higher qualities of this sign include being optimistic, ethical, fun, enthusiastic, straightforward and adventurous. The lower qualities can include being self-indulgent, overly direct, self-righteous, a jack-of-all-trades-and-a-master-of-none.
Gemini - the higher expression can include being communicative, flexible, curious and a lover of learning. The lower expression can include being scattered, impatient, unemotional and overly-talkative.
Gemini and Sagittarius are both similar in some ways - both can be optimistic - which often makes this Full Moon one in which are looking forward to the future. Also, they both have a love of learning, but Gemini tends to be more interested in learning the basics and a focus on details whereas Sagittarius wants to take all the basic information and synthesize it to come up with what is “considered the truth”. Both approaches are important because without reliable facts, any conclusions will be on faulty ground. A Gemini Full Moon is great to make sure we are focusing EQUALLY on both forest and trees.
This Full Moon comes with a t-square however which we have discussed before, but here is an example of what the configuration looks like:
This Gemini Full Moon has both ends of the opposition (180°) between Sun and Moon making a square (90°) to Neptune in its home sign, Pisces. In a t-square configuration, Neptune becomes the focal planet and with it, we are being encouraged to consciously access the higher qualities of Neptune’s energy which includes faith, trust, creativity, compassion, spirituality and intuition.
However, Full Moons are emotional and can bring out the shadow qualities of signs and planets. We are advised to avoid slipping into Pisces and Neptune’s lower expression. This can include not seeing things for what they really are or seeing the world or any situation through “rose-colored glasses” and choosing to cope by escaping through addictions and/or falling into patterns such as playing the victim, co-dependency or martyr. Neptune’s co-presence on this Full Moon may also make it difficult to explain how we are integrating the basic information of Gemini with the higher order thinking of Sagittarius. We may simply have an intuitive understanding of what is “right” for us. Neptune also means that our focus on what is “right” may involve our spiritual beliefs and/or how we express compassion in the world around us.
Neptune, Uranus and Pluto are sextiles (60°) to each other adding support for exploring our beliefs in these areas of our lives - as well as making any needed changes in order to be more aligned with our individual identity.
Mercury is in an exact trine (120°) to Mars retrograde and may help us to counteract Neptune’s murky influence on our ability to communicate our ideas clearly. The Mercury-Mars trine should tend to increase our mental sharpness which in turn enables us to think more clearly or make decisions quickly. Another benefit to our mental and communication skills is that on 15 December, Mercury will end it final retrograde phase of 2024 and begins to move direct once more.
In the days that follow, we will likely notice increased ability to clearly express our thoughts and a decrease in the number of mental errors and information snafus. Plus, given the holiday season is upon us, travel plans should go more smoothly than the did over the Thanksgiving holiday (in the US).
Bonus: Sun, Moon, Neptune PLUS Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are all in mutable signs. So we need to remember to be flexible and adaptable during this Full Moon time. Unexpected events are likely to come up and we should try to remember to “go with the flow”, be spontaneous and have some fun. This lovely energy to have if you are attending holiday parties and events - and Mercury-Mars trine should help keep conversations at social gatherings very lively.
Throughout December, we are al being encouraged to take a step back and see the picture - especially when it comes to the concept of “truth”. As we’ve discussed several times, we need to be mindful that not everyone in the world, our society, culture or even within our families - have the same definition of what is “right” or “wrong”. It may help to remember that some of our own beliefs have morphed and changed over our lifetime. All of the mutable energy this month doesn’t mean that we have to be indifferent or lack conviction in our own personal philosophy. We can still hold firm to our beliefs about our own sense of right and wrong. Encountering those with beliefs or philosophies that differ from our own, it may help to take an observational, curious perspective.
Lastly, although the orb isn’t as close as it was in November, we are still under the Mars-Pluto opposition (180°). This can lead to heated arguments if heels are dug in about individual belief systems. A more productive use of this aspect is to tap into the abundance of energy that is available - we may be able to courageously tackle some very challenging projects/issues right now and this energy should become more available towards the latter part of December and as we move towards the second of three exact Mars-Pluto oppositions that will occur in early January 2025.
Remember this holiday season:
If you can, try not to discuss sex, politics, religion or pay (this last submitted by a reader). This makes for more pleasant gatherings. Please try to Give and Afford grace.
Until next time. Be Good To Yourselves.
Tara, xx
