Howdy Travelers.
If you’ve been following me over on Twitter and watching my videos - then you should remember that I’ve been talking to you about the big move of Pluto into Aquarius 23 March 2023. But Pluto is not alone in making moves - Neptune and Uranus will also be making big moves - so all 3 of the outer planets will shift signs.
The Outer planets all move very slowly and typically will change signs every to 7 - 20 years. Pluto can extend out to 32 years as he has an erratic elliptical path he travels - but I digress. The 3 outer planets also have a generational energy - meaning there will large swathes of the human population all sharing a particular outer planet in the same sign. For example, all folks born between 1957 to 1972 were born with Pluto in Virgo. Every person born during those years will have the energetic signature of Pluto in Virgo in their charts/lives - think yoga, clean air/water, vegans, PETA, sexual freedom. Pluto rules poisons and toxins to name a few and Virgo rules the body, health and “clean things.” Astrologer Margaret Hone says that Pluto rules Black People - think of the start of the Civil Rights Movement near the end of the 50’s into the 60’s and 70’s - then you can start to see the pattern and energetic signature.
So it’s rather a big deal when all three outer planets make moves and many astrologers are predicting that this will be the beginning of a “new era of humanity”.
But these three outer planets will also be making retrograde moves for about half the year. The shift into a new sign involves a 3-step process:
Entry into a new sign
A retreat back into the previous sign for several months to a year (depending on the planet)
Then final direct motion back into the new sign
Whenever a planet makes the first few steps into a new sign, this often gives a peek into what may be coming ahead. Retrograding back into the old sign will often afford us the opportunity to finish up old business that is related to that sign.
Pluto
Let’s start with Pluto. Although considered a “minor” planet, he has big power. Ruler of the Underworld, he represents transformation, death, rebirth, destruction and ultimately healing. Pluto has been traveling through the sign of Capricorn since 2008. Capricorn is associated with governments, heads of states, Presidents, Prime Ministers, big corporations and even our skeletal system - so bones and teeth. If you think back over the past 14 years, I think we could all agree that many of the structures in our personal and collective lives have be radically transformed.
23 March, Pluto enters at 0 Aquarius where he will move direct until 1 May when he begins to station retrograde for his move back into Capricorn. He returns to Capricorn 11 June where he remains until January 2024. In effect, we be experiencing a “re-do”. We will get the chance to go back over old stuff and finish it up. We are being asked to be absolutely certain of letting go of the old structures that have outlived their usefulness so that we can fully commit to Pluto in Aquarius. We may need to finalize a lot of endings in our lives, clean up lingering problems or clear out old emotional and mental psychic debris that has kept us trapped in the past.
Pluto’s initial foray into Aquarius will give us a glimpse of what is to come once it returns to this sign for it’s 20 year stay. While in Capricorn we may be focused on the past, slow growth, predictability, stability and control of what could be experienced with our five senses. But Aquarius is the very antithesis of this. It is about the future. Unlimited possibilities, doing the unexpected and trusting what cannot be seen. This will be a radical shift.
Neptune
Next up in motion is Neptune. Neptune has been in the sign of Pisces since February 2012. He will remain here through 2023, but he will be moving retrograde 30 June for about 4 -5 months. Here, our intuition may be heightened, but we may also feel a bit more confused or as though we are not seeing reality. This can feel like a strange time. You may also feel the need to compassionately help others and be less judgemental. Do check in with yourself or someone you trust as they can help you see clearly what you may be missing at this time. This would be a great time to start a spiritual practice for yourself - to help you stay grounded and not “float off” into the ether of Pisces.
Uranus, father of Saturn, grandfather of Jupiter, Neptune and Pluto will be in retrograde motion at the start of this year but on 22 January, he will begin direct motion again. He will continue his slow move through the sign of Taurus - in fact he will be in this sign for 7 years. As Taurus is often associated with finances and Uranus is known as the planet of change I think we can all agree that we’ve experienced profound changes and upheaval in the markets and our own wallets, just as Pluto has created profound changes and upheaval in the structures of our lives.
Having Uranus in the slow moving sign of Taurus means that any change process should be slower and more manageable than if it would be in a different sign. While we should remain conservative and cautious regarding our finances and investments, patience should likely lead to slow growth and eventual success over time.
Uranus in Taurus should also help us with finding new ways to take care of our bodies. We should continue to explore what can make us as healthy as possible.
Saturn
While not a big outer planet, but one of the Social Planets - he has been transiting Aquarius for the past 2.5 years. Saturn typically stays in a sign for 2 - 2.5 years and on 7 March, he will move into Pisces. Unlike Pluto and Uranus, he will not be making retrograde moves back into Aquarius. He will stay in Pisces.
Saturn is not a happy camper in either Aquarius or Pisces. Saturn is about the past, stability, predictability, realism, hard work and limitations. Traveling through Aquarius is a hard passage as this sign likes instability, change and focusing on the future. This has meant that individually and collectively we’ve all had to creatively explore some novel solutions (Aquarius) to solve problems and do so by tapping into the wisdom of the Past (Saturn). It has been very challenging because the creative approaches needed meant not repeating the past without suffering and not being SO radical that we ignore what the past has to teach us.
But if Saturn is uncomfortable in Aquarius, then he’s even moreso uncomfortable in Pisces. Saturn in the sign of Pisces could not be more diametrically opposed as where Pisces wants no limits or boundaries, Saturn is all about limits and boundaries. To navigate this energy successfully, Saturn can help us learn to trust our intuition and be “patient with the process.” He can also help us to create and stick to a spiritual routine. An even more positive note: Both Saturn and Pisces have a focus on endings, so wrapping up anything that is unfinished should be emphasized this year.
Jupiter
The Grand Benefic moved into the sign of Aries 20 December. He usually spends about a year in one sign before moving on, but this year he will move quickly from Aries into Taurus by mid-May where he will be joining Uranus in Taurus until May 2024.
While Western astrologers always speak about Jupiter being lucky - this is true in some aspects, however I also agree with the Vedic astrologers that one needs to be careful with Jupiter as he can become lazy, greedy, despotic and dogmatically hypocritical - corrupt even. Nevertheless, I would strongly advise to take advantage of his transit through Aries - particularly during the middle of January as this will be a great time to take the initiative to start something new that might have a bit of risk involved. It could lead to great success later. Jupiter in Aries should provide us with the courage and energy needed to grow, expand, take a leap of faith. This transit can also help us face challenges with courage and confidence particularly if you feel that there’s anything that has been blocking your ability to do something new (e.g. self-doubt, restrictive values, unhealed fears, low self-esteem or resistance to leaving something that isn’t working.)
For the past few months we may have felt as if our foot has been stuck on the gas but Jupiter’s shift into Taurus in mid-May may feel like we’ve slammed on the brakes. If this happens you need to understand that in life it is necessary to slow down at times so that we can understand what’s going on around us. We need time to take a deep breath, focus on ourselves and allow all the recent growth to settle in.
If you’re into all things financial this could be a very good time for growth, but remember my warning a few paragraphs earlier - Jupiter can lead to excess. Any and all financial investments/decisions should be based in sound, practical realistic assessment and not “wishful thinking”. During this time, the mantra should be“slow and steady wins the race.”
Mercury
What can we say about The Trickster? Well first, Mercury goes retrograde three times a year and in 2023, he will do this in Earth signs:
First retrograde period is from 29 December - 18 January - moving through the sign of Capricorn. Here we should have time to restructure how we think, communicate or learn. We could also be re-considering the structure of our lives.
Second retrograde phase is from 21 April - 15 May in the sign of Taurus. Whatever word you can think of putting the prefix “RE” in front of, then you should do it as it relates to your finances, values, investments and taking care of your body.
Third retrograde transit will be from 31 December 2023 - 2 January 2024, again in the sign of Capricorn. Whatever you did during the first retrograde of Mercury through this sign, you’ll be given an opportunity to re-assess whether or not it worked or if you’ll need to re-do something.
Mars has been in Gemini for an awfully long time and he just ended his retrograde through this sign yesterday, 12 January. Mercury will go direct in Capricorn 18 January and Uranus will move direct in Taurus 22 January. These times will be a special opportunity to re-evaluate what occurred in your life during these retrogrades periods. The reason that I mention these dates again is that 22 January we will be entering a 3 month period of time when ALL 10 planets in the solar system will be in DIRECT MOTION. This doesn’t happen that often but when it does, it is the Universe’s way of signaling a big green light. All Systems Go. Whatever goal you’ve set for yourself maybe more likely to be attained during this time than any other. Don’t procrastinate - get busy!
Finally, the Nodes
The nodes of the Moon change signs every 2.5 years with a cycle of 18 years. For the past two-and-a-half years the Nodes have been on the Taurus-Scorpio axis. 17 July 2023, the nodes will shift signs to the Aries-Libra axis. The last time they were here was 18 years ago! North Node Aries/South Node Libra. This will be about you versus the other. So this could mean finding greater self confidence in yourself (Aries) *OR* it could mean people (Libra) from the past coming back into your life to either start something new or close the loop on something old that needs finalizing. Stick a pin in this as we’ll be discussing this more at a later date.
Until then…Be Good to Yourselves.
Tara, xx
