Thursday 14 September is a New Moon and it finds the Moon and Sun conjunct at 21° 58’. The issues associated it with that house are going to be most influenced by this New Moon.
This time we are focused on Virgo:
The higher expression of this sign include being practical, efficient, precise and analytical.
The lower expression can lead to being overly perfectionistic and picky.
Virgo is a mutable earth sign. Mutable signs are especially skilled in being adaptable and flexible, which can help us adjusts to any changes occurring in our lives. The Virgo New Moon can be a very productive time, even though there is often a quiet gentleness to Virgo’s energy. But it is also a time to buckle down and face the music when it comes to any life tasks that have recently been put on the back burner.
The Virgo energy is happiest when we clean, clear clutter, organize and bring order to apparent chaos in our physical lives. However, it is also time to do the same with our inner lives - such as cleaning up our diet, eliminating beliefs, thought patterns and old emotions that no longer serve us.
At the time of the New Moon not only are the Sun and Moon located in Virgo, but too is Mercury. This provides us with an extra dose of Virgo energy to help us heal - especially physically.
Lately, it is likely that many of us have felt like we have recently been doing a lot of deep thinking and Virgo energy often prefers to be alone to do it best work. But once Mercury goes direct less than 24 hours after the New Moon, our communication with others will increase. Pieces of information that have felt disconnected or swirling around us, may suddenly fall into place and result in new clarity and new realizations.
Venus have ended it's retrograde phase on Sunday, 3 September. If you have done the work of the Venus retrograde phase - which began at the end of July and continued through all of August - you may have a renewed understanding regarding your current needs and desires with any relationships and your finances. This may have provided us with confidence and helped us to determine what we should continue in our lives or what needs to end.
Right before the Virgo New Moon, Mercury will end it’s retrograde phase and begin moving direct again. Things may begin to pick up, but wait two more weeks before taking action - this is the post shadow retrograde phase. Things should begin to go back to normal especially with any technological challenges you may have experienced. While Mercury was in retrograde phase we may been asked to review and revamp how we approach certain tasks. We may also have been thinking about some new choices. Perhaps all of this should result in you feeling that things are finally coming together and making sense. You should feel ready to make some important decisions. Because Virgo is about serving, perhaps some of the ideas should have to do with how you can humbly serve others.
With Mercury and Venus beginning to move direct, this will mean that all five planets that are closest to the Sun (i.e., the personal planets which are Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) - they will all be moving direct. But on Sunday, 3 September Jupiter began it annual retrograde phase. This means that all five of the outer planets (i.e., Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Pluto) are all moving retrograde. This can be a time of quiet reflection and integration and both influences will likely be present and will need to be addressed. This may be felt that we are ready to move forward, but the retrograde energy slows us down and requires that we expand a bit more effort to achieve a desired goal.
On 13 September, there is an Earth grand trine - this is an equilateral triangle where at least one planet is in each of the corners and each corner is a tried to the other two corners are the chart. The grand trine is composed of the following planets;
Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus
Sun and Moon in Virgo
Pluto and Capricorn
With the five outer planets involved in retrograde phase, what do you need to know is that grand trine are very positive. This one will support us in seeing new possibilities and making any necessary changes (Uranus) to let go of what is no longer needed or relevant (Pluto) and which will support us and expanding (Jupiter).
Saturday, 23 September will be the Fall Equinox - which is when the Sun moves into Libra and marks the start of the fall season in Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere. Mars will also be in Libra all during this month of September which give us energy and motivation to bring more harmony, cooperation and balance into our lives especially in our relationships. Compromises and negotiations may highlight this time. However, decision making maybe more challenging during this month long transit of libra because we can more easily see both sides of a situation - which may cause a bit of self-conflict/conflicts.
For the most part, this Virgo New Moon is the time to both move forward with progress and inner contemplation. The Virgo energy can be powerful as it has a tendency is to be quiet, humble and obtrusive. It prefers to work behind the scenes. This can be a very productive time for clearing, cleaning and organization not only of our exterior physical lives but also in our inner lives. And we should use this energy wisely because October will bring our second eclipse season of 2023 - combining with Mars moving into the passionate sign of Scorpio, the energy will ramp up substantially.
For now we are advised to tap into the very positive energies that provide us opportunity to manage practical affairs and mundane task, but with all five outer planets in retrograde - this is one of those times where it will be
a marathon not a sprint. You can still make progress, but there's no need to rush. Instead focus on doing a task which is what Virgo energy is all about.
Hello Tara, I hope you are feeling better. Thank you for this wonderful explanation of the New Moon and Retrogrades coming up for this month of September. I love how you explain astrology to make it more comprehensible for me. To me, astrology is a very complex science, and I am glad you have a terrific grasp of it. Sincerely, Yolanda
Thank you, Tara, hope you’re making great progress. Sounds like a good time to do that very thing!
